Aviation's tiered certification model is becoming AI governance's default architecture, but its unresolved cross-border recognition gap should worry regulated AI buyers just as much.
Certification is not the same as clearance
The comparison between aviation’s assurance regime and AI governance has become almost reflexive: tiered risk certification, black box logging, audit trails, borrowed wholesale for a domain that has none of its own. AI governance has no equivalent recognition layer at all. A system cleared under one framework has no guaranteed standing anywhere else.
